We are dedicating this website towards a bee friendly San Diego. The current beekeeping ordinance of 600 feet requirement is very restrictive and unnecessary. We propose that the San Diego County Agricultural Commission amends’ its County of San Diego code of regulatory ordinances, tile 6 section 62.922 and 62.923 to facilitate a bee friendly San Diego. We propose that the current rules get changed to 25 feet, so that residents could keep bees in urban and rural settings.

What do cities like Santa Monica,City  California, New York, Seattle, Portland, Denver, Spokane, Chicago, San Francisco, Toronto, Vancouver and now City of San Diego have that the County can’t give. These cities have 25 feet requirement for keeping bees in the city. CCD (colony collapse disorder) and climate change requires that we take care of our bee population urgently or 90% of our food source will disappear along with our keen pollinators.

According to experts if bees continue to disappear at this rate, it is estimated that we will not have any bees left by 2035.  Therefore, to keep our livelihood secure we have to make our cities bee friendly. If you are having doubt on our current crisis it might help if you would watch a streaming video titled: Silence of the Bees on PBS (about 1 hour long).

At this time we are calling on all likeminded individuals to take this worthy cause and work towards a greater good. Embrace our grassroots effort and become an agent for change. Utilize your family, friends, organization, association, and influence to make a meaningful change. Most of all, sign  our online petition.
